Most people agree that resilience is important, but it’s become overused and can have different meanings. One definition of resilience is ‘bouncing back’ from adversity, almost like nothing bad happened. The problem with this definition is that it tends to prevent people from experiencing and expressing their emotions, which is counterproductive in a situation which requires resilience.

A better way to cope with adversity is to focus more on those tough emotions, not less. You might be thinking this sounds counterintuitive.
